Snack #44 - Quitting is for winners

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

To move through certain emotions, we need to let them come and go. Resistance makes sure we keep feeling those feelings and that we don’t move on.

Am I strong enough to do what I want to do? Am I ready for everything that can hit me? I don’t ask myself those questions because I just jump to the answer - either yes or no, and usually, eventually, yes. Otherwise I would just stop.

I have been stopping more lately, considering the fact that I may not be as ready as I thought. Maybe I do need to step back and regroup - many successful people in history have done that, my mentors tell me it’s ok and so are my friends, therapist, and occasional instagram motivational post. If it’s so ok, why is it so hard?

I feel I’m at this point where I know how much I don’t know, and it’s overwhelming. The sheer amount of things I have to learn is..maybe too much for the amount of time I’m trying to fit it into. I don’t want to quit, definitely to pause, but I have to accept the possibility of quitting.

“Quitting is for winners” - that’s because only winners know when to quit and they have the privlege to do so. Yes, you can quit just because it’s hard, but sometimes quitting is the way. If I resist the option of quitting, then it will stick with me and I won’t move on, and I don’t want to live like that.

I like to remind myself once every couple of days this little mantra:

“I don’t have to do anything. I can quit everything I’m doing, right now, and everything will be fine.”

I always feel a little better after I say that.
