Service Description
How many hours do you deliberately practice being human? Yeah, we all do it since birth - feeling, empathizing, etc. But what about actually practicing it, as if you were practicing a dance move, and not just reflecting in retrospect, reading, or talking about it? We CAN practice aspects of our humanity, like intuition, expression, understanding emotion, and showing empathy - but we need a safe environment, and solid reference and feedback, to learn and develop them. This is the practice to do it. Emotion, and empathy, make up a universal layer of communication between people. This mechanism is mostly automatic! We all have it, but what we do with that empathy and how well we read others is something that can be learned and practiced. Unlike most dance classes that focus on the quality of movement and its technique - here we learn to understand our own emotions, read others' body language and emotions, and strengthen a connection that isn't always maintained - the (very human) link between raw emotion and expression. In other words - we learn to speak and listen better, so we can have better dance conversations. In partner dancing just like any relationship, we are the sum of the people entering that relationship. By bettering ourselves, we can better the relationship and our conversations. The first key to a successful interaction is the ability to be authentic - with ourselves first, then with others. That is hard, as we may come with certain inhibitions from everyday life. The goals of this practice are: 1. To improve the awareness of our emotional state 2. To break habits around how we express 3. To practice awareness to others' emotional states and cues 4. To create a safe space to be vulnerable and authentic. This is NOT therapy, although it can be vulnerable and therapeutic. The goal isn't to "cure" or "fix" anything - it is only to increase our awareness. I'll be drawing on acting methods, meditation, psychology, and neuroscience research about empathy in this practice.
